Lake Superior Marine Museum Association Announces “Spring Break Up” Drawing Winner

The Lake Superior Marine Museum Association (LSMMA) in conjunction with the Lake Superior Maritime Visitor Center is pleased to announce the winner of the annual “Spring Break Up” drawing.  The winner of the “Spring Break Up” drawing was drawn when the first Great Lakes Fleet/Key Lakes ship went under the Duluth Aerial Lift Bridge.  Congratulation goes to Darlene Parent of Stillwater, Minnesota.

 

Darlene Parent and a guest, will enjoy a round-trip cruise aboard the Great Lakes Fleet/Key Lakes, Inc. 1,000-foot ore carrier, the Edwin H. Gott.  The winners will set sail from Two Harbors or Duluth, Minnesota, and cruise through the Soo Locks and the St. Mary’s River.  The 5.5 day cruise will be scheduled for later this summer.

 

LSMMA still conducts its “Cruise of a Lifetime” raffle.  Tickets for the annual “Cruise of a Lifetime” raffle will go on sale in April.  The “Cruise of a Lifetime” drawing will be held during the 2014 Gales of November, LSMMA’s educational, fundraising and networking benefit.  The raffle drawing will take place on Saturday, November 8 at 5:00pm at the Duluth Entertainment and Convention Center.  Contact LSMMA or visit their website for raffle ticket pricing and details.

 

Lake Superior Maritime Visitor Center Presents: Earth Day Celebration

Lake Superior Maritime Visitor Center, in conjunction with Lake Superior National Estuarine Research Reserve and the Lake Superior Marine Museum Association, is hosting a FREE Earth Day Celebration April 19 from 10:30 am to 4:00 pm at the Lake Superior Maritime Visitor Center, 600 South Lake Avenue in historic Canal Park in Duluth, MN.  Admission and parking is free.

Many organizations are participating in this free event: USDA Forest Service, Lake Superior Estuarine Research Reserve, Western Lake Superior Sanitary District, Sappi Fine Paper, Fond du Lac Reservation, US Coast Guard Auxiliary, St. Louis River Alliance, Sea Grant, University of Minnesota Duluth Recreational Sports Outdoor program, and Hawk Ridge Bird Observatory. 

Stop down and visit the activity tables and see what Earth Day really means for our environment.

Other Speakers include:

Chris Winters, staff photographer at Discovery World museum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Chris is a veteran shipwreck explorer, three-term board member of the Great Lakes Shipwreck Historical Society and an associate member of the International Shipmasters Association. His award-winning book of photographs Centennial: Steaming through the American Century, chronicling life aboard the century-old lake steamer
St. Marys Challenger, was published in 2008.
